I have Jewish mom armpits, I guess. One of my favorite foods is onions and that’s what my pits were smelling like. Or chicken soup, even though I don’t eat chicken. And it is even worse with stress. I was sitting there working and irritating my own nose.

I went through all of the natural deodorants but I’m one of those people- baking soda irritates my skin. I made one myself with charcoal and it was pretty good but not good enough. Not all-day you’re-a-busy-mom-who-forgot-to-shower-this-morning-and-has-to-finish-audio-editing-a-podcast-episode-in-an-hour-and-the-run-to-teach-a-baby-sleep-workshop good. All of the natural deodorants seem to work great for a week or so until the body gets used to them.

Then the accident happened. I was using a product made to prevent ingrown hairs after shaving (clears throat) bikini line after a shower and I accidentally rolled it on my pits like deodorant. I noticed that I had zero stink for …..two days. Researching all of the ingredients and looking up what was written about properties of each, I realized…

It’s just salicylic acid (the kind that fixes zits). Now you may be thinking “that isn’t natural!” because you’re used to seeing it in drug store products from our teenage days. But salicylic acid is just an acid derivative from birch trees! It is considered both safe and natural (though it can dry the skin a bit- I have not noticed a problem with that.)

It doesn’t block pores or have aluminum, you still sweat (though a tiny bit less)- so this isn’t for those of you looking for anti-perspirant. But for stink, it’s a miracle.

It does sting a bit on freshly shaved pits but super worth it for me and I don’t notice it anymore.

You don’t need the expensive ingrown-hair preventer I started with. It turns out anything with 2% salicylic acid (not higher!) works. Do you have a toner? Cleansing Pads? I got some from “Tingl” that are wonderful. I don’t recommend the drug store brands because some of the ingredients are really nasty, even in the “sensitive” versions but here are some great options:

Life-Flo Salicylic Acid Spray

Belei Blemish Control Oil-Free Facial Cleansing Wipes

Glycolic/Salicylic Acid 10/2 Acne Control Pads

Vitamin C Skin Clearing Face Toner

Heritage Store Heritage Store Blemish Treatment Toner

Eva Naturals Vitamin C Serum plus Salicylic Acid

Alba Botanica Acnedote Maximum Strength Deep Clean Astringent

Apparently other acids work almost as well- Alpha Hydroxy, Beta Hydroxy and Lactic Acid, Glycolic. So if you have those in your cabinet, give it a try and let me know!

I was so excited to share this magic. I hope it changes your life like it has mine. One less worry so I can be spontaneous and run out of the house at the drop of a hat!
